Red Rocks Amplitheatre

The famous Red Rocks Amphitheatre is located about 15 miles west of Denver.  John and I both had faint memories of seeing it when we were young.  We decided it was time to take another look and see if it was as amazing as our memories of it were.  You know how it is when you try to revisit childhood places.  They are never quite as huge or fantastic.  Well, this was just as wonderful as we remembered.  I think they have improved the stage area. It opened in 1941 and has been the host of such famous groups as the Beatles and the Grateful Dead.

We took all three dogs with us and they seemed to enjoy the ride.  AJ preferred the way back, Abby sat in the last set of seats and Chauncy rode in the seats behind us.  They also enjoyed getting out and walking around the amphitheatre.  As you can imagine, lots of people had to stop and say hello to the three dogs.

We decided to drive along Colfax avenue instead of driving on the interstate.  Colfax has played host to legions of prostitutes and to the Pope.  Home of iconic Denver building such as the Denver Mint, the capitol building, the Invesco stadium where the Broncos play, the state capitol and the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception.  It has appeared in popculture sources from Jack Kerouac's On The Road to an episode of Sout Park.  At one point Playboy magazine called it the "longest, wickedest street in America".  But a number of changes have happened on Colfax.  We went from run down boarded up buildings to nice looking neighborhoods.  Any type of food is available from fast food, african, irish, english, and diners.  An interesting drive.

This ampitheatre is huge! I clicked on it and the people look like ants. Did it say how many it can seat and what do they use it for?

About Me

We retired after years of being in the computer support business, Jane with Brulin Corp and John with Unisys. We tried tent camping but finally settled on RV living. While we are part timers now, we hope to move to becoming full-timers eventually. John works on his HO model of Ellis, KS UP railroad and Jane persues her search for used books to read and sell on Amazon. We winter in Apache Junction, AZ and summer in Indiana.
