Colorado Railroad Museum

This is the best railroad museum we have ever been to.  Although to be fair, most of the ones we've seen have been in small towns.  Train buffs love the large collection of all kinds of train cars scattered about on a 12-acre yard. There were such things as an engine built to remove snow from the tracks. The Galloping Goose #2 was built with various parts from a Buick, Pierce Arrow, Ford Truck and a railroad engine.

I loved the HO scale model of Colorado history.  It was quite elaborate and detailed.  Much of the scenery was built by one artist who died in 1998.  I was impressed with how she designed the backdrop to look like it was a part of the layout.

John did enjoy looking at the roundhouse, turntable and the water tank.  Since he is building these things in HO scale for his layout in Ellis, it helps to visit the real thing.  They had a garden railroad but it lacked the detail and interest that we have become used to in garden railroads.  Our friends in Apache Junction have one and it has become the standard by which we judge other garden railroads.

The dogs were happy to see us arrive home.  We picked up AJ's tennis ball and headed for the park.  We managed to wear them all out as they came home and crashed.

About Me

We retired after years of being in the computer support business, Jane with Brulin Corp and John with Unisys. We tried tent camping but finally settled on RV living. While we are part timers now, we hope to move to becoming full-timers eventually. John works on his HO model of Ellis, KS UP railroad and Jane persues her search for used books to read and sell on Amazon. We winter in Apache Junction, AZ and summer in Indiana.
