I volunteered to prepare the food. Amy had decided on a menu consisting of the following: beef tenderloin with blue cheese sauce, seafood gratin (containing shrimp, lobster and cod), garlic mashed potatoes, green beans with shallots and tomatoes, summer strawberry salad and herb rolls.
We served it buffet style and had the tables set up in the yard for seating. When the guests arrived they were offered drinks and appetizers (mini quiches and dill cucumber toasties). While they were meeting and visiting, I was in the kitchen doing the last minute preperations with the help of my son John and his wife Sandy. We had also hired a woman to help. Do to a lot of planning and previous prep work, everything went very smoothly.
A friend loaned us a lot of beautiful silver serving pieces to use on the buffet table. Margaret and Amy did a wonderful job of creating a lovely setting for the food. They were also able to find enough flowers in the garden to decorate all the tables in the yard. I was impressed at their creativity.
The guests all had a great time and some of us stayed up until the wee hours of the morning enjoying the perfect weather. It was a thrill for Amy to have her brother and sister here as well as a long time friend from Chicago. We spent the next day relaxing and visiting. Then enjoyed sitting outside watching the fireworks display put on by the city of Indianapolis.
John's daughter Mallory was there with her boyfriend. I liked this picture of them with Amy and John. Hard to think that I've acquired a couple of step grandchildren. I spent some time visiting with them. Carson and her friend Evan were there as well. She was a great help with the toddler who visited. Plus running all kinds of errands.
