Visit to Birch Bark Books

We traveled to Minnesota in early June to attend a wedding. It was a chance to visit with John's brother and his assorted relatives. Sam and Phillip went with us. The wedding was in Red Wing which is a delightful little town that we have visited before. One of John's favorite American Indian painters has a studio there. We have visited him before but were not able to see him this time.

On Sunday we drove to Minneapolis and dropped Sam and Phillip off at the University of Minnesota campus to visit with a friend. John and I then searched for a book store I've been wanting to visit for years. Birch Bark books is owned by Louise Erdrich who is an author whose books I enjoy. I'm also a big fan of Independent Book Stores. While this store is not as large as Tattered Cover in Denver or Changing Hands in Phoenix, they have an excellent selection of books. John was thrilled to find a large American Indian section. I was happy with the choices in fiction and poetry. While our pockets were empty when we left, we had huge smiles on our faces. As the saying goes "when I have money I buy books, if there's any left over, I buy food and clothes". Describes me to a 't'.

About Me

We retired after years of being in the computer support business, Jane with Brulin Corp and John with Unisys. We tried tent camping but finally settled on RV living. While we are part timers now, we hope to move to becoming full-timers eventually. John works on his HO model of Ellis, KS UP railroad and Jane persues her search for used books to read and sell on Amazon. We winter in Apache Junction, AZ and summer in Indiana.
