Origins Symposium

My brain is bursting from all the information I received today.  Linda and I went to an all day seminar while our husbands were sitting around drinking beer.    It was a fantastic, once in a lifetime experience  for us. (The guys can recreate their experience anytime.)  Some of it was way over my head but other talks were quite interesting and prompted me to buy a few books to learn more.  ( Okay, I admit it, it doesn't take much to get me to buy books. Linda says she just left me alone for a few minutes.)

There was a panal of Nobel Prize Winners who spoke and I don't even understand what they won it for.  Such as Baruch Blumberg who won for "discoveries concerning new mechanisms for the origin and dissemination of infectious deseases and specifically for the discovery of the Hepatitis B virus".  Okay, that made some sense.  How about David Gross who won his award for "the discovery of asymptoticastrophysics,  freedom in the theory of the strong interaction".

We also heard from Don Johanson who discovered Lucy.  He says the evidence is clear that we all descended from a common ancester in Africa.  Yup, we were all black to begin with.

The biology guy who talk about the genome was way over my head but it sure sounds interesting.   They were throwing around terms like quantum physics, asymptotic freedom, quantum chromodynamics,  theoretical physics.  And they made it all sound so exciting.  I'm ready to go back to school!!!!

About Me

We retired after years of being in the computer support business, Jane with Brulin Corp and John with Unisys. We tried tent camping but finally settled on RV living. While we are part timers now, we hope to move to becoming full-timers eventually. John works on his HO model of Ellis, KS UP railroad and Jane persues her search for used books to read and sell on Amazon. We winter in Apache Junction, AZ and summer in Indiana.
