Books

Enjoyed a couple of books lately.  One by Salman Rushdie called The Enchantress of Florence.  Reading his books always is a pleasure.  The way he puts together the story and his imagination continue to delight me.  I think I'll read my all time favorite book, Midnight's Children again.  However at this point I only have one friend who fully appreciates him.

The other book is The Girl With No Shadow by Joanne Harris.  It was a fun read, sequel to Chocolat which I also enjoyed.

Book club today talked about Steven Ambrose's book, Nothing Like It in the World.  Did you know that the financing required to build the first transcontenental railroad was exactly like that used by Enron executives.  Some things never change.  But would the railroad have gotten build without those shaky finances?  Who knows.

Back to reading The Wedding of the Two-Headed Woman.

I just finished "A Land So Strange," about a Spanish conquistador who spent 8 years in the North American wilderness in the 1530s. Very entertaining.

Now I'm reading Rabelais' 'Gargantua & Pantagruel' & also re-reading one of my all-time favorites, "Infinite Jest," by David Foster Wallace (who, you may have heard, committed suicide earlier this year). I think John David would like that if he hasn't read it already.

I'm following Margaret's impending births with great interest!

Love,
Dan

About Me

We retired after years of being in the computer support business, Jane with Brulin Corp and John with Unisys. We tried tent camping but finally settled on RV living. While we are part timers now, we hope to move to becoming full-timers eventually. John works on his HO model of Ellis, KS UP railroad and Jane persues her search for used books to read and sell on Amazon. We winter in Apache Junction, AZ and summer in Indiana.
