We are in a peaceful, wooded landscape. The weather is perfect and the dogs have found lots of interesting smells. After we unhooked, we drove into Lawrence to get a few supplies and to pursue a sign I had glimpsed as we drove into town. It said books and I thought perhaps we had stumbled onto a used bookstore other than the one we usually patronize. But found out it was an Internet seller of law books.
I’m reading Survival of Rural America that chronicles the struggles of small towns in rural areas. We both grew up in those towns and will be passing by some of them.
I’m also reading Kate Atkinson’s book called Emotionally Weird. I keep thinking that my friend Karen who is a professor at the university might recognize some of these odd characters.
If you know me, you know I have a passion for books and food. Some of you are familiar with the way I cook brisket. We went to friends house last night and she served some delicious brisket. The very same recipe!! No wonder we loved it so much. The highlight of the dinner, which John passed up to his later regret, was a chocolate cake and homemade ice cream. I think Bill called it Bill’s Downfall. It was way better than the mixes I usually throw together. Moist, chocolaty, and worth every calorie. Besides chocolate is an essential part of any diet as Shari continually reminds me.

Is your new phrase going to be "Eating and Reading across America"?
Sounds good to me.
